The value of Irish shares jumped by almost 2% by mid-morning today, as the ISEQ index jumped 94.38 points to 4,988.85.
Large gains for the financials is largely responsible for the rise, with Anglo Irish Bank the best performer, gaining 44c to €5.84. Irish Life And Permanent (up 33c to €6), Allied Irish Banks (up 20c to €8.70) and Bank of Ireland (up 16c to €5.73) also showed good progress.
The biggest gain on the Exchange so far today came for Elan, which soared 96c to €22.10. DCC (up 36c to €15.10), IAWS (up 27c to €15.34) and Grafton (up 17c to €3.45) also did well.
It was not all good news however, as both Ryanair and Paddy Power lost 11c to €3.12 and €17.87 respectively.
