The ISEQ steadied today but still showed a small loss, inching down 15.93 points to 2,710.72.The ISEQ steadied today but still showed a small loss, inching down 15.93 points to 2,710.72.

Allied Irish Banks was the only firm in the financial sector that gained ground, climbing 13c to €3.52. Anglo Irish Bank was unchanged at €1.80. Bank of Ireland slipped 5c to €1.60, with Irish Life And Permanent enduring a 45c slide to €3.10.

The construction sector fared pretty well, with CRH up 28c to €15.08. Kingspan also performed, climbing 25c to €4.45.

Irish Continental Group (up 60c to €16), FBD (up 41c to €11.41) and Kerry Group (up 15c to €17.55) all saw improvements.

There were contrasting fortunes in the energy sector, with Dragon Oil up 11c to €1.88, but Tullow Oil plunging 70c to €5.60.

Elsewhere, Elan was down 56c to €5.64, with Icon plunging €1.90 to €21.
