Forde fires Kilanerin
Forde finished the game with a personal tally of 0-7 and had a hand in most of his side’s scores, with his clinical 29th-minute pass setting up Dean O’Toole for the crucial opening goal that helped his side into a 1-9 to 0-4 interval lead, despite playing into the wind.
While a PJ Banville-inspired Horeswood did manage to show huge improvement on the resumption with some neat points, it was still the Kilanerin side who moved on to an impressive 1-13 to 0-10 victory.
The victory assured Kilanerin a place in the quarter-final, while Horeswood with just two points out of a possible eight, must win their final game, to retain a championship interest.
In the second game at Bellefield, a real relegation battle, as Adamstown gained a comfortable 1-13 to 1-8 victory over Duffry Rovers. Adamstown’s first-half goal from Paddy Whitty set up their victory. Rovers remain pointless and are faced with a battle to preserve their senior status.
Four goals from Red Barry saw St Anne’s maintain their 100% record with a resounding 4-10 to 0-8 victory over Fethard at O’Kennedy Park, New Ross.
Having led 1-6 to 0-5 at the interval, Barry completed a second hat-trick of goals as his side cruised to victory.
Goals from Adrian Flynn, Graham Cullen and Fintan Ryan saw Gusserane beat neighbours Clongeen 3-13 to 1-2 to secure their quarter-final spot, while Ciarán Lyng with a personal tally of 0-6 helped St Martin’s to a surprise 1-13 to 2-6 victory over Castletown at Wexford Park.
Five points from corner-forward Jason Murphy inspired Wexford town side Sarsfields to a narrow 0-9 to 0-7 win over Shelmaliers, with the two points sufficient to keep them on course for a quarter-final, as Shelmaliers continue to battle against the relegation play-offs.
