Murphy warns against ‘destabilising’ danger

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Ulster Council secretary Danny Murphy has warned a new Championship structure excluding the provincial campaigns could destabilise the All-Ireland competition.

"The development of the hurling qualifiers in both hurling and football are, to a very large extent, dependent on the provincial structure," Murphy told TV3.

"I think if we move away from that a very radical structure may actually destabilise and may not generate the public interest. At the end of the day, what you need is competitive games that are relatively close to the people who are going to them. You do generate the passion that you get with all the various games in the provincial championship.’’
