Kerry, Glanbia suppliers enjoy LTO price boost

Suppliers to Kerry and Glanbia enjoyed the second highest 2011 rise in the LTO milk price analysis from the Netherlands.

Recording the milk price trends at 17 big EU dairy companies, the LTO figures show that Kerry suppliers were paid 16% more than in 2010, and Glanbia suppliers were paid 15% more.

Only suppliers to the DOC Kaas company in the Netherlands did better, with a price rise of 17%.

Recent data for November 2011 indicated that Irish farmers were paid €38/100kg for milk, compared to an EU average of €35.20.

However, Kerry (€33.61 per 100kg) and Glanbia (€34.15) came under the 2011 rolling average price of €35.10 in LTO’s standardised milk price calculations for the big milk purchasers.

The largest milk price rises in 2011 came outside of Europe, with US and New Zealand prices advancing 25% and 24%, respectively, according to LTO.
