Man rescued from Shannon by passing boat

A MAN who was tossed from his boat into the navigation channel of the Shannon Estuary spent an hour in the water before he was rescued by a passing boat.

A massive search and rescue operation was mounted late on Sunday night for the man, who is in his 30s, after he failed to arrive at his destination. The search was stood down, however, after the man’s dinghy was discovered in a small harbour further up river.

It has now emerged, however, that the man had spent almost an hour in the water, a fact not reported to the Irish Coast Guard or gardaí.
