Eircom to merge two operations

Dublin: Eircom has confirmed that it will amalgamate its mobile (Meteor) and retail operations in the coming months and simplify its "customer facing" units into consumer/small business, government /enterprise and wholesale.

The company has also appointed Virgin Media board member Stephen Beynon as group managing director of its consumer and small business division. Meteor’s current chief executive, Larry Smith is also leaving the company to return to his native US.
