IN response to Cllr Donie Daly’s letter on films made in Ireland (August 10), I would like to add that in relation to Moby Dick (1954), only a few minutes of footage were actually made in Youghal.

In fact, two-thirds of the film was shot in Shepperton Studios in England. The remainder of the film was shot in 21 other locations abroad. The most stated reason for filming in Youghal was its resemblance to New Bedford near Boston. It is also likely John Huston’s relationship with Claud Cockburn may have helped .
